            Structural basis of Fusarium myosin I inhibition by phenamacril

            Fusarium graminearum is a species of filamentous fungi that causes devastating disease in major staple crops. Phenamacril is a recently identified myosin I inhibitor that is a potent and highly species-specific and myosin subtype-selective fungicide. Zhou et al report the high-resolution structure of the phenamacril-bound myosin I motor domain of this major crop pathogen, providing insight into the molecular mechanism of phenamacril action and resistance.

            Interferon inducible GBPs restrict Burkholderia thailandensis motility induced cell-cell fusion

            The intracellular bacterium Burkholderia thailandensis invades the cytosol, hijacks host actin, and induces cell fusion to spread to adjacent cells, forming multinucleated giant cells which promote bacterial replication. Place and colleagues reveal that IFN and GBPs play a critical role in restricting cell-cell fusion and bacteria-induced pathology during infection.
